WL406 Woodlot Licence Plan Comment Period

NACFOR is submitting a new Woodlot Licence Plan (WLP) for Wood Lot #406.

A woodlot is a small tenure managed by a licensee (NACFOR) for economic, recreation, and social values. “A woodlot licence grants licence holders exclusive rights to manage and harvest Crown timber within the woodlot licence area. Woodlot licences are awarded either through an advertised, competitive application process or a direct award.” For more information about woodlot licences, visit

(Woodlot Licence – Province of BC).

WL 406 is located northeast of Nakusp, B.C. on the west slope of Mt. Jordan. NACFOR acquired WL 406 in early 2023. The WL covers 600 hectares and is a mosaic of mature timber, re-stocked plantations, and selectively logged areas. The WL has high recreation value, is a prominent part of the viewscape from the community, and is within Kuskanax Creek and Brouse Creek community watersheds. As new managers of the WL, NACFOR will be working with qualified registered professionals to conduct assessments and receive recommendations for WL management, including visuals, hydrology, terrain stability, and wildlife values. NACFOR will discuss WL management with Nakusp and area community members and local recreation societies to incorporate local values and recreation ideas into WL management plans.

The WLP will be the guiding document of all forestry operations within the WL area, including surveying, timber harvesting, road construction/ maintenance, and silviculture activities. NACFOR would like to receive your input and questions on the WLP document. The WLP will apply to the full WL area for 10 years (2024-2034) from the date of approval by the District Manager.

NACFOR invites the public to review and comment on the WLP WL406 and submit written comments via email (info@nakuspcommunityforest.com) or by visiting the NACFOR office (119 Broadway St, Nakusp), during business hours (Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm).

The proposed WLP and a map of the WL area can also be viewed at the NACFOR office, 119 Broadway St. If you would like to discuss the WLP or receive further information, please contact Mike Crone by email at mcrone@cabinworks.ca, Erin McLeod by email at emcleod@cabinworks.ca, or by phone at 250-265-3603.

The public review and comment period will be open for a 10 week period from November 17, 2023 to January 26, 2024. Please submit your comments prior to January 26th to ensure they are considered.
