NACFOR has had a long-standing educational partnership with School District #10. This educational partnership fostered an opportunity for NACFOR and SD#10 to work with Eloise Charet since 2011, offering cedar bark harvesting and basket weaving to students. However, Eloise’s teachings have been taking place long before then.
In 2023, NACFOR and SD#10 came together with the intention of compiling Eloise’s valuable information and storytelling into an educational resource that could be used by students, staff and the public for many years to come.
This film has evolved into a beautiful celebration of Eloise’s life, activism, community involvement, and her cedar bark teachings.
Thank you to the support of School District #10, and Nakusp Secondary School, NACFOR, and this project’s other funding supporters such as the Nakusp and Area Community Foundation, RDCK and Village of Nakusp, and Telus Communications.
And, a special thanks to Eloise, Isaac Carter, Leda Botting, Maisie Brekke, Suna Galay, the NSS staff and students, and to the Lucerne staff and students for helping this project come to fruition.

In May 2023, students and staff from Nakusp Secondary School travelled to Slewiskin FSR just south of Nakusp to a NACFOR development area to film this documentary. The photos below are from the filming day, all photo credit to Isaac Carter.
